PRESS RELEASE

Charity CEO launches bid to become Labour’s first Mayor of Sussex

Former councillor and charity CEO Cat Arnold has today announced her campaign to become the Labour Party’s candidate for the new Mayor of Sussex — promising to unite the county behind a bold vision to harness Sussex's assets to create strong, green growth and prioritising new social housing.

Cat, who lives and works in Sussex, brings 15 years of business experience and over a decade in public and voluntary leadership. She currently serves on Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC), where she contributes to the party’s Clean Energy Superpower mission and champions grassroots democracy.

A former Adur councillor and environment lead, Cat also led local charities including Adur Voluntary Action and Sussex Prisoners’ Families, supporting hundreds of organisations and families across the county.

“I’m standing to unite Sussex — coast, countryside and city — behind Labour’s vision for homes, good jobs and a greener, safer future,” Cat said.

“Our region deserves a Mayor who understands both the opportunities and the pressures facing Sussex — from the housing crisis to the climate emergency. With a Labour Government and a Labour Mayor working together, we can make Sussex fairer, safer and more prosperous for everyone.”

If elected as Labour’s candidate, Cat has pledged to focus on:

  • Affordable housing and sustainable infrastructure

  • Green jobs and clean energy investment

  • Tackling crime and violence against women and girls

  • Health, wellbeing, and community resilience

Cat added:

“I’m proud to have represented Labour at every level — locally, regionally and nationally. I know how to listen, bring people together, and deliver results. Sussex is ready for change, and I’m ready to win for Labour.”
